KS4
Key Stage 4:
PE in years 11 and 12 continues to build on the skills, knowledge and understanding developed from the previous years. In addition to pursuing the sports and activities covered in years 8, 9 and 10, students will tackle more complex and demanding ideas and concepts to fulfil their potential in each activity. Students will be encouraged to get involved in a range of activities that develops personal fitness and promote an active, healthy lifestyle; the concept of ‘life-long’ activity is one which we try to instil as students prepare for life once they have left school. All students will be encouraged to continue to take part regularly in competitive sports and activities outside school through community links or sports clubs. In addition to their core PE programme, students may opt to follow an examination course in Physical Education. The PE department provides examination courses, including GCSE PE and BTEC Sport; all cater for the learning needs of students who have an aptitude and enthusiasm to further develop their learning in Physical Education. The PE department achieves well above the national average in these examinations. Currently we offer two G.C.S.E. courses; Eduqas PE and BTEC First Sport (Level 2). Each year the staff will chose which qualification would best suit that particular GCSE class. GCSE PE The Eduqas syllabus is offered to any pupil who wishes to take PE as an exam subject. The exam is weighted 60% and the practical 40%. Students can choose from a range of practical activities including their own sporting specialisation. The colleges’ results to date have been impressive with the majority of the pupils gaining A* to C grades. 2019-2021 results were 100% A*-C. BTEC First Sport Level 2 This course is targeted towards young aspiring PE students who have a keen interest and passion for sport.
