Key Stage 4:
GCSE Business & Communication Systems
Studying Business and Communication Systems will engage you in the study of business and digital technology and develop your practical skills in using software applications. You will have the opportunity to explore the changing role of digital technology in business and economic activities.
This specification will help you to develop a lifelong interest in and enjoyment of business subjects.
This subject combines business theory with essential business IT skills. It has proved an excellent choice for many pupils who have wanted to develop their IT skills and gain a good knowledge and understanding of business theory. The area of business and IT is a popular career path at Advanced and higher level courses in our local universities.
It is assessed 75% by examination and 25% Controlled Assessment. There are 2 exams to be completed at the end of the course:
• Computer-Based Practical Exam – 35%
• Handwritten Theory Exam – 40%
As implied by the assessment requirements, the emphasis in this subject is on the practical IT skills that would be essential in any modern office. Practical skills in the use of the Microsoft Office suite of software will be gained in carrying out a range of typical office tasks. Lesson time is split between the classroom and IT suite.
